Gray, Georgia Weather
about us

The Jones County News has been printed continuously since 1895. Along the way, the newspaper has been owned by several different families, never falling under corporate ownership. Currently, the newspaper is owned by Debbie Lurie-Smith, Editor, and Josh W. Lurie, Publisher, both of Gray.

We are located in downtown Gray at 102 Stewart Avenue (pictured right) next to the W.E. Knox Civic Center. We can be reached by: phone, (478) 986-3929; fax, (478) 986-1935; email, mynews@jcnews.com; or mail, P.O. Box 1538, Gray, GA 31032.

Local, Local, Local

Our community newspaper employs six full-time employees and two part-time employees, all residing in Jones County. Every newspaper sale contributes to the local tax base, and since we live in Jones County, we are committed to spending our money here and encouraging others to do the same.

The newspaper's focus is strictly on Jones County and Gray, but we do include stories on the state and sometimes national level if they are issues we feel affect our readers. We don't consider ourselves in competition with other newspapers, as they have their niche, while no other news medium covers Jones County as extensively and fairly as we do.

Readership

Currently, our circulation average is about 4,300 newspapers per week, or approximately 10,320 readers. Our average newspaper size is 32 pages, excluding special sections.

Our newspaper is printed Tuesday night and on the stands by Wednesday afternoon. Post Office Box customers also receive their newspapers on Wednesday afternoons if they have a subscription. All other in-county subscribers receive their newspapers with the regular mail on Thursdays, with out-of-county copies delivered shortly thereafter.

Awards

The Jones County News won three advertising awards and four editorial awards‚ including first place awards in local news coverage and front page, in 2007 from the Georgia Press Association. In 2008, we received six advertising awards and seven editorial awards, including first place in special section, front page, and second place in local news coverage and general excellence. 2009 brought first place awards for layout and design and front page along with several awards for writing and photography. We are honored to have received these awards judged among newspapers from our state by peers from other states.
