A week off after only two games may seem too early, what with eight more regular season games to go.

But Jones County coach Dwight Jones said the break came at a good time for the Greyhounds, who fell to 1-1 with a 21-3 loss to Mary Persons on Sept. 6.

“It was early, but everyone in our region has to take a week off sometime in the first three weeks. We started practicing July 25 and have been going at it hard ever since. We had some guys bummed up a little, so it was not a bad time to be off.”

Not that they just sat around during the off week.

“We worked them pretty hard three days last week, then backed off a little. We saw against Mary Persons we need to get better on both sides of the ball. Hopefully the work and then the rest will help, because after Friday, we go right into seven straight weeks of region games,” Jones said.
