Excuses for not going to the polls to vote are getting fewer and fewer with this Saturday being a prime example.

Early voting will take place Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Jones County Elections office located in the Government Center, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All registered voters, no matter their district, may vote.

Early voting has been going on since Monday, Oct. 15, and will continue through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the elections office. Voters may cast their ballots during the office’s business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, the phone number for the elections office is 986-3222.

The first week of early voting in Jones County was impressive with a total of 1,257 coming to the elections office to vote from Oct. 15 to Oct. 19, according to Elections Superintendent Marion Hatton.

She said her office has also sent out 668 absentee ballots.

Of course, anyone who chooses not to vote early will be able to vote as usual on Election Day Nov. 6. All Jones County precincts will be open that day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
