Jones County commissioners took up a former hot topic in a work session Feb. 21 in a discussion about possible curbside garbage and trash pickup for county residents.

Commissioner Tommy Robinson said the reason he wants to investigate the possibility is because he feels it is the duty of the board to be good stewards of taxpayers’ money.

“I want to explore ways to save our constituents’ money,” he said.

Robinson introduced Adam Cochran, the general manager of Advanced Disposal Company in Macon. He said Cochran is an expert in the field and was there to provide the commissioners with information.

The commissioner gave out reports of the county’s annual cost for handling the disposal of solid waste, and the bottom line was just under $1 million.
