The Jones County Veterans Committee met recently to critique last November’s Veterans Appreciation Day celebration and discuss the coming year.

Committee chairman, retired Col. Richard Combs, called the Jan. 31 meeting to order, and the first item on the agenda was a report on the Jones County Veterans Monument.

Committee member Evelyn Collins said eight new pavers were engraved before the 2012 Appreciation Day and no new pavers have been ordered since.

Treasurer Bonnie Duke gave the financial report. She said all bills have been paid and the checking account balance is $4,342. Duke said the service hats given away at the Veterans Day event were a success with perhaps one remaining. The hats had the names and insignias of each branch of service and were gifts to each veteran who attended.

Combs said last year’s new addition to the event was the Jones County Cruisers Car display, and it was agreed the vintage automobiles added a new dimension to the celebration. The Cruisers will be asked to return this year.
