The Charlotte Wilson Conference Room was filled with emotion last week when a group of south Jones County residents came to the Board of Commissioners pleading for help.

The Oct. 18 meeting started with a second request by Commissioner Bert Liston to put a moratorium on a $750 performance bond required by the county when a mobile home is moved to a new location.

Liston brought up the issue at the Oct. 4 meeting and received no support from the board members, in large part because it was believed there was a way to get the bond from an insurance company for 10 percent of the cost.

When that option proved to be virtually non-existent, the commissioners changed their minds and unanimously approved the moratorium on the bond.

“I want to do anything I can to help you,” Liston stated. “All the commissioners have a soft spot for what you are going through.”

A majority of the people at last week’s meeting are residents of Wells Mobile Home Park who received notice Oct. 1 from park owners that they must move their homes and vacate the premises by Dec. 31.
