At approximately 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, Jones County Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire at 2594 Old Gray Highway, which is the location of the Skyline Motel.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions.  Jones County Fire Chief Don Graham said that three engine companies from Jones County and two companies from Macon-Bibb County battled the blaze together for more than 35 minutes before gaining control.

Graham said Assistant Fire Chief Bill Wright was first to arrive at the motel and quickly assembled a search and rescue team to evacuate employees and guests.  Property owner Francis Adams and his son were not on site when the fire broke out.

“An aggressive attack by our unified firefighters proved beneficial by cutting the blaze off from spreading to the 12 guest rooms,” said Graham.

The chief added that the blaze appeared to have started near the laundry room and the cause is still under investigation.  No injuries were reported.
