The Greyhounds opened their 2014 baseball season with a 13-3 victory at Upson-Lee last Thursday, pounding out 12 hits while surrendering only four.

The opener was a day late after Jones County’s game at Dublin on Wednesday was postponed by rain. It will be made up on March 12.

This week, the Greyhounds are to host Veterans on Wednesday in their home opener, the first of three consecutive days of home games. They entertain Howard on Thursday and West Laurens on Friday. All are scheduled to start at 5:55 p.m.

Coach Barry Veal said he was pleased with the way his players swung the bats and played defense against Upson-Lee. The only sour note was a bit of wildness by his pitchers.

Starter Jacob Walden walked five and hit one batter in three innings, and Chandler Ramage walked two more in two innings.

But Walden also had six strikeouts and gave up only three hits, and Ramage struck out three and surrendered only one hit.
