At Americus-Sumter on Friday, Sophia Grimes placed second in the all-around with a 30.1. She scored 8.3 for first place in the vault, 7.5 for first on the beam, 6.4 for second on the bars and 7.9 for second on the floor. Cheyenne Harrison was third on the vault with an 8.2.
“Both girls looked great,” coach Jeanine Wilson said. “Cheyenne was able to do her front handspring, which is a goal that we had been working toward. She also had her best vault score so far this season. Sophia excelled in all areas. It was a great meet for both.”
The gym Hounds hosted Bainbridge, Camden County and Americus-Sumter in a meet at the Gym Nest in Macon on Saturday.
“Bainbridge won the meet with an impressive 102 team score, and Camden County came in second with an 89.25,” Wilson reported. “Neither Jones County or Americus-Sumter had a team score for this meet. Three girls have to compete on each event to compete for a team score. Cheyenne and Sophia did a good job. Back-to-back meets are hard to handle in gymnastics. Both girls made a strong effort to excel.”
