The Greyhounds are hoping a 9-4 victory over third-ranked Houston County that snapped the Bears’ 14-game winning streak last Friday will provide a spark to help them get back to the state playoffs after missing out last season for the first time since 2005.

Jones County (14-5 overall, 6-3 west subregion) hosts Evans (12-7, 4-5 east) in the opening round of the Region 2-AAAAA playoffs in a double-header on Thursday at 4 p.m. The third game, if necessary, will be at 6 p.m. Friday.

The winner of the best-of-three series advances to the region semifinals on April 22, but more importantly, the four first-round winners in the region playoffs all qualify for the state playoffs. The region championship game is scheduled for April 25.

Houston County (16-4, 8-1 west) hosts Grovetown (8-10, 1-8 east), Greenbrier (14-4, 9-0 east) hosts Warner Robins (6-13, 3-6 west), and Lakeside-Evans (8-11, 4-5 east) hosts Northside-Warner Robins (5-16, 1-8 west) in the other first round series.

Jones County split two other games last week, falling 7-6 at West Laurens in a non-region game on Wednesday and downing Northside 4-0 in a makeup subregion game on Saturday.
