In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Gray Station Hounds rallied in the second half to tie the game and then went on to win 21-14 in overtime against cross-county rival Clifton Ridge last Wednesday in middle school football.

Now 5-0, Gray Station finishes the regular season with a game at Byron on Wednesday. Clifton Ridge, now 4-1, hosts Monroe County at 5 p.m.

There’s a good chance the two Jones County schools could meet again in the playoffs, and a possibility they both could host first round games next week if they both win this week.

“That was a great game,” Gray Station coach Travis Lawson said. “They got up on us, but we kept battling and caught up, and then we were able to score in that first overtime and hold on to stop them.”

Clifton Ridge coach Charles David said some late mistakes cost his team.

“We seem to always do that when we play them,” he said. “But hopefully we can bounce back and beat Monroe.”
