Jones County resumes an old rivalry on Friday night when Putnam County comes to visit, but none of those playing now remember a thing about it. The seniors and juniors were still in diapers the last time the Greyhounds and War Eagles played each other in football, and the younger guys weren’t born yet.

Kickoff for Jones County’s first home game of the season is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Greyhound Field.

Both schools enter having lost their last game – Jones County (1-1) fell to Mary Persons 25-21 two weeks ago and Putnam County (2-1) lost to Morgan County 39-16 last week.

The Greyhounds beat Alcovy 21-16 to open the season, and the War Eagles started with a pair of wins, 28-14 over Greene County and 32-0 over Crawford County.

Putnam County leads the series 24-21 and has a four-game winning streak over the Greyhounds. But the last contest in the rivalry was back in 1997, when the War Eagles won 49-19 in Gray. Jones County’s last win in the series was in 1993, 19-13 at home.
