Antwuan Poole showed up to school Tuesday wearing a sharp suit and bow tie.

No, he doesn’t dress that way every day, but his professional appearance fit with the occasion and his dedication as an athlete that has earned the Jones County senior a track scholarship to Savannah State. The signing ceremony was held at the high school Tuesday morning.

Former Jones County track coach Greg Nisbet, who retired from coaching at the end of last season, said when Poole first joined the varsity program four years ago, he already trained and ran like a professional.

“He’s a smart, dedicated runner who has always worked hard and been very professional in his training and racing,” Nisbet said. “I’m really thrilled for him and expect great things out of him in the future.”

New Jones County boys’ track coach Travis Reese, who has worked with Poole the last few years as the assistant working with the sprinters, echoed those sentiments.

“Antwuan has been great for us, and I’ve told him I’m looking for him to lead us into good things this season. The way he goes is the way we’re going to go. And I believe he’ll go on to college and excel there as well.”
