The Jones County National League 8-and-under girls’ all-star softball team is heading to the Dixie Youth League World Series in Alexandria, La., after winning the state championship Sunday in Milledgeville.

The Jones County team went 4-0 to capture the state crown for the second year in a row and third time in four years in that age division. The World Series opens on Aug. 3.

The Jones County girls, coached by Wes Land, Rick Trefelner, Robert Howard and Keeley Goins, downed Taylor County 21-1 on Friday, Marianne County 21-0 and Baldwin County 18-0 on Saturday, then defeated Crawford County 16-5 in the championship game on Sunday.

Players on the team are Ashlyn McClendon, Destin Howard, Rylie Gibson, LaTrecia Ammons, Tori Land, Ana-Marie Land, Tiffany Thomas, Mollie Findlay, Emma Randall, Keegan Goins, Taylor Trefelner, and Aniya Canty.

Two other all-star teams from Jones County also competed in the Dixie Youth League State Tournaments.

The JCNL 10-and-under girls finished second in the softball tournament in Milledgeville this past weekend, and the JCNL 8-and-under boys played in the coach-pitch state tournament July 5-9 in Ft. Oglethorpe.
