This graduate of Jonesco Academy, arriving on July 17, will have two local pre-release book signings. Her first novel, Just Another Run of the Mill Day, is a memoir. It details hardship in her family over events with both of her sons, one having a “catastrophic health crisis,” and his younger brother struggling with “self destructive behaviors.”
Atkinson said the reality of the story was essential.
“I felt that if I was open and honest about our family problems and situations, readers could more readily identify with our story and be able to relate to struggles that we have as humans. I also wanted to show that sometimes, even at our lowest points in life, we can still find humor and hope.”
Now living in Pennsylvania, Atkinson had to make an adjustment as she moved to the North. When the family resettled because of her husband’s job, she admits she had to get used to certain changes, like real winters where she has to shovel more than a dusting of snow.
