The Jones County girls and boys both finished second in a four-school track meet at Mary Persons in Forsyth last Tuesday in what Greyhounds’ coach Travis Reese said was the worst weather for track he has ever experienced, with bitter cold and icy wind.

The Mary Persons boys and girls both won, and Pike County was third and Monticello was fourth.

“It was some of the most miserable running conditions you can imagine, and it showed in our times,” Reese said. “One of the positives was Jaylin Wright throwing a personal best of 116 feet, 9 inches in the discus. I tell the kids all the time we can only worry about what we can control and we have no control over the weather, so we still have to come out and perform at the same level regardless of what the conditions are.”

Wright was second in the discus to Pike’s Cody Fine, who had a throw of 122 feet.

Alfred Hunter gave the Jones County boys their only win, going 36 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump. Jarmal Smith was third at 34-2.5.
