Coach Leah Bodnarchuk said the previous 11 invitational meets had been hosted at Jones County High, but she said the team is thrilled to partner with the college for this weekend’s event.
“We are very excited to be working in conjunction with the Georgia College athletic department and cheerleading team this year to host our annual event,” she said. “Moving our event to a college campus is a huge honor. I am especially proud to be hosting our competition at my alma mater.”
The Centennial Center has seating for 4,071, which will help with the large crowd expected for the 25-team competition on Saturday. Admission is $5. Middle school teams will compete beginning at 10 a.m., and high school competition begins at noon. The Georgia College cheerleading squad will also perform.
Jones County’s high school and middle school teams, along with the squads from Gray Elementary and Dames Ferry Elementary, will also perform in a special family and friends night at 7 p.m. on Friday at Georgia College. There is no admission charge for those coming to that event.
