“I’m afraid it wasn’t a good day on the course for us,” coach Jeff Williams said. “We were 34 strokes worse than we were when we won region. I don’t know what happened to us.”
It was the first time in school history the girls’ team had qualified for state.
Kensley Brown led the Lady Hounds with a 98, Charli Justice shot 101, Kaitlyn Hemstreet 103 and Monique Veal 109. The low three scores were used in determining the team score.
The Jones County boys’ team did not qualify for state, just missing advancing out of the sectional tournament, but senior Zach Haney participated as an individual and shot a 77 at Bartram Trail in Evans on Monday to tie with three others for 19th.
Lawson King of Gainesville was the low medalist with a 69. Other individual and team scores from the boys’ tournament were unavailable on Monday.
