Michael Frank Adams pled guilty to the charge July 11 and also pled in a second case to giving a false name and driving on a suspended license. He received 12 months for each offense in the second case, which will run concurrent with each other and first case.
Adams was arrested March 11, 2012, by Jones County Deputy Harley Davis on a charge of theft by taking, financial card fraud, and theft of a motor vehicle. The charges of theft by taking and motor vehicle charges were dismissed last week as part of plea negotiations.
The arrest in the second case took place Dec. 1, 2012. The arresting officer in that case was Deputy Dina Rice. According to her report of the arrest, she was patrolling in the area of Stagecoach Road and Upper River Road when she saw a Silver Ford Expedition traveling at a high rate of speed.
The officer caught up with the car and called the tag into dispatch. Rice was advised, if a male was in the vehicle, it was Adams, and he had outstanding warrants. She initiated a traffic stop and asked him for his license. He said he did not have his license with him and gave her a false name.
