More than one kilogram of methamphetamine was seized in Middle Georgia last week with the help of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s Department Investigator Robert Reece said Ray Rivers, 52, of High Falls, was arrested May 28 in the Tumbling Shoals subdivision off of Highway 18 West and was found in possession of 114 grams of methamphetamine.

Rivers was charged with the trafficking of meth under the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. The charge of trafficking involves the sale, delivery, or possession of 28 or more grams of the illegal drug, and if convicted, comes with a minimum 10-year sentence and a mandatory $200,000 fine.

Reece said Rivers also has pending trafficking charges in Monroe County. He added that a joint operation with Monroe County resulted in the seizure of 57 more grams of meth for a total of 171 grams in that arrest.

Reece said Jones County also participated in a joint investigation, May 29, with the Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna Narcotics Unit, a multijurisdictional task force, which is run out of Cobb County.

He said the task force seized approximately 859 grams of meth in Cobb County. The investigator said four individuals were arrested in that effort and two pistols, reported as stolen out of Atlanta, were recovered.
