JONES COUNTY: Graveside services for Harold E. “Buddy” Thompson, 82, were conducted Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Elam Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. The family received friends at Williams Funeral Home in Milledgeville, Saturday, Oct. 19, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Toomsboro and had made his home in Jones County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Hoke Smith Thompson and Ola Pearl Payne Thompson, and was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Dale Holton Thompson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Korea on the flight deck of the USS Bennington. He was the owner operator of the Arctic Circle and Po Boys Drive Inn in Macon and retired as jailer with the rank of sergeant with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office in 1995.

Survivors include his sons, Mark Thompson and Harold (Michelle) Thompson, of Haddock, and Eric (Margie) Thompson and Mickey Thompson, of Gray; sisters, Elizabeth Davis of Pine Mountain and Evie Griffin of Eatonton; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Home.
