GRAY: James Newman “Jimmy” Wood, 55, of Buck Road, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, after an extended illness. The family received friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, at Clinton Methodist Church, with the Rev. Douglas B. MacMillan officiating.

The son of the late Judson Newman Wood and Zola Gordia Thompson Wood, Mr. Wood was born in Macon on Oct. 7, 1957, and had lived in Gray for the past 40 years. He was a graduate of Jonesco Academy and was employed as a mail handler by the United States Postal Service for 35 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Joy W. Tomlinson of Gray.

Mr. Wood is survived by his daughter, Melissa Ann Wood and her fiancé, Trent Purvis, both of Gray; sister, Cheryl Wood Hildreth of Irmo, S.C.; brother-in-law, Larry W. Tomlinson of Gray; granddaughter, Hannah Charlesworth; and by his nieces and their spouses, Dr. Amy N. Hildreth and Herbert Krabel of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dawn T. and Jay Sikes of Monroe.
