After struggling mightily the last few years, Jones County’s ninth-grade football team is rolling so far this season.

The Hounds improved to 3-0 with a 36-6 victory over Houston County at home last Thursday.

Reginald Lewis ran for two touchdowns and three two-point conversions to lead the scoring. Tyric Solomon also scored two touchdowns for Jones County, one on a kickoff return and one on a run from scrimmage. And Chandler Ramage had a touchdown run, offensive coordinator Rusty Courson reported.

Head coach Neal Dabbs said the Hounds’ defense was also impressive. Keeron Hogan had 10 tackles to lead the team. Torrez Finney and Daniel Curry had two quarterback sacks apiece. Elijah Rooks had eight tackles, two for a loss, and Tracy Jackson controlled the middle, forcing a fumble and getting two tackles for a loss.

Tyrell Solomon had an interception, Tyric Solomon and Logan Gordon had six tackles each, and Darrell Lee Duggan had five tackles and recovered a fumble.

The ninth-graders’ next two games are on the road, against Warner Robins on Thursday and at Northside-Warner Robins on Oct. 4. They finish the season at home on Oct. 18 against Perry. Kickoff for all of the games is 5 p.m.
