The Jones County track teams continue to improve as the season cranks up.

The boys won a track meet at Thompson Stadium in Macon hosted by Howard High last Tuesday but didn’t fare as well on Thursday at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in a meet hosted by Northside-Warner Robins.

Team scores for the Tuesday meet were Jones County 96, Westside 78, Mary Persons 53 and Howard 18.

Finishing first for the Greyhounds were Edregas O’Neal in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 3 inches, Dalton Carr in the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, Hunter Kimball in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:02 and in the 3,200 meters with an 11:15, Justin Clausell in the 400 meters with a 51.19, Daylon Martin in the 110 hurdles with a 15.92, and the 4-by-400 relay team of Jequelle Griffin, Clausell, Alfred Hunter and Jo Jo Gibbons with a 3:33.

Landrevious Bowden was second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.

“I am very proud of the way the boys ran at the Howard meet,” coach Travis Reese said. “We were able to beat three pretty good teams, and that’s always a confidence booster. I’m proud of the 4-by-400 teams taking 10 seconds each off their times from our previous meet. Dalton Carr did a great job of getting a new personal best in the pole vault. I saw some bright spots.”
