A resource fair for the residents of Wells Mobile Home Park was held at Jones County’s Fire Station 1 last week to assist families having difficulty in moving their homes.

Joy Carr, director of Jones County Family Connection, put the Oct. 30 event together. Carr said approximately 20 families from the mobile home park attended the resource fair, with 15 of them signing surveys about what they need to assist in their move.

She said she has had five additional families inquire about services and programs since the fair.

The idea for the event was the result of a visit by several residents of the mobile home park to the Jones County Board of Commissioners Oct. 18 meeting. Commissioners listened to the plight of the residents, who received notice from park owners Oct. 1 that they must have their homes moved out of the park by Dec. 31.

Many of the residents had lived in the mobile home park for 10 and some for 20 years and more. They told the board members that they had no money to move their homes, and several said they would have to walk away from them even though they were nearly or completely paid off.

The commissioners explained to the residents that they would help all they could, but it could not include the use of taxpayer money.
