Jones County People Looking Ahead Now (PLAN) will hold its first meeting of the year at Shooters Grill Saturday morning.

Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m., Feb. 2, and the meeting will begin no later than 9. The cost of breakfast is $7. Those attending are asked to call the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce at 986-1123 or e-mail natalie@jonescounty.org. A head count is helpful to ensure plenty of food for everyone.

The PLAN group will be looking at a variety of upcoming issues but the first item on the agenda will be the election of officers for the grassroots organization. Chris Smarr has served as the group’s chairman for the past two years and has decided to step down following a list of accomplishments that includes the receipt of a $650,000 grant in 2011 for sidewalks connecting city subdivisions and the county’s recreation complex.

The nominating committee has a full slate of officers to be approved by PLAN members.

One of the issues on the horizon to be considered by the group is support of the Board of Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax that will be on the March 16 ballot.
