The grassroots organization, Jones County People Looking Ahead Now, will meet at Shooters Grill Saturday to discuss future plans and past successes.

Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., Sept. 8, and the meeting will begin no later than 9. Everyone involved in PLAN, or who would like to be, is encouraged to attend. The cost of the breakfast is $7 per person, and those attending are asked to call the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce at 986-1123 or email natalie@jonescounty.org. A head count is helpful to ensure plenty of food for everyone.

People Looking Ahead Now Chairman Chris Smarr said the meeting agenda includes selecting a nominating committee for an election of officers and an opportunity to find out the progress of each committee.

The Housing Committee will have an exciting announcement following the receipt of a $385,000 Community Development Block Grant last week, and the Cultural Arts Committee will report on the work that has been done and talk about the Folk Arts Festival scheduled in October.

PLAN was formed by a steering committee of community leaders in 1997 and was an offshoot of the leadership program Forward 2000.

Among its accomplishments, PLAN was instrumental in the creation of Jones County’s Operation Early Intervention program, Jones County Family Connections, the Gray Downtown Development Authority, the reactivation of the Development Authority of Jones County and the Gray Downtown Development Authority, and the creation of Jones County History and Heritage.
