PLAN reports progress over past quarter

Saturday’s breakfast for grassroots organization Jones County People Looking Ahead Now was well attended, and it is evident work is being done.

Following a delicious meal provided by Shooters Grill, the first speaker was Gray Station Better Hometown Director Heather Busby. She reported about the continuing saga of the acquisition of the Gray Station Depot.

Work started on the project in August of 2011, and just as it appeared an agreement was at hand to purchase the building from Norfolk Southern, the deal changed.

Busby said the committee has worked hard, but she received an email from a company representative stating that the depot must be moved. The news was not all bleak because a subsequent email gave the hope that, if a place could be found to move the building, it may be gifted to the city.

The setback did not appear to deter the director’s resolve.
