The issue of Sunday alcohol sales took up the majority of the agenda for Gray’s Aug. 5 meeting. Mayor Gus Wilson presided at the meeting, and following the usual housekeeping items of approval of the minutes of past meetings and paying the city’s bills, read the two ordinances.
The first ordinance was for the Sunday retail sales of malt beverages and wine for consumption at local restaurants, and the second was for the sale of the beverages in local stores that are licensed for the alcohol sales.
Those ordinances state, however, the approval is contingent upon voter approval in the Nov. 5 election.
City attorney Joan Harris said the hours of the alcohol sales would be according to state law, which is from 12:30 p.m. to midnight at restaurants and 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the stores.
The two resolutions simply request the elections superintendent to place the questions on the ballot. All votes for the Sunday sales were unanimous.
