Jones County Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief Don Graham said a call reporting a vehicle fire on Highway 22 came in at 8:53 a.m. Jan. 13, and Station Seven’s engine with firefighter Capt. Greg Walker arrived in four minutes.
Walker was the paid firefighter on duty at the city’s Station Seven at the time the call was received, and Graham said the fire was under control within seven or eight minutes.
“The engine went through the back of the property and pulled up to the pickup that was on fire beside the house. The heat was so intense from the vehicle the siding started to melt and the side of the house was actually on fire,” he said. “It was extinguished quickly.”
Two residents and a dog were inside the residence and were all evacuated safely.
Graham said thermal imagers were used before firefighters left the home to make sure there were no hot spots that could cause problems later.
