“Weather permitting” have become the words of the season for the Greyhounds.

One of the wettest Februarys on record has made it hard for Jones County’s spring sports teams to get going. Not only has it limited practice time, but now it is beginning to delay the starts of their regular seasons.

The tennis team had already had its opener with GMC postponed earlier this month, and Monday its second match, at home against Putnam County, was also rained out.

The tennis Hounds were supposed to host Northside-Warner Robins in their region opener on Tuesday, then play at Warner Robins in another region match on Thursday, weather permitting.

The season openers for the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams, as well as for the varsity golf squad, were also rained out on Monday.

Weather permitting, the junior varsity and ninth-grade baseball teams were to play at Northside-Warner Robins on Tuesday, and the JV team has a game at Thomaston on Thursday. The varsity Hounds are scheduled to play at Jackson on Thursday, Upson-Lee on Friday and to host North Oconee and Tift County in a three-team round robin on Saturday.
