The Jones County Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a couple of summer programs to keep school-age children moving and entertained this June and July.

Director Matt Goins said the efforts are pilot programs by the department that he hopes to expand in the future.

“Hopefully we can offer more as we go along,” he said.

A Public Summer Play program will be held Monday through Thursday each week beginning June 17 and running through July 18 at the Government Center gym off Industrial Boulevard. Hours will be 9:30 a.m. until noon each day.

The gym will be open on a free-play basis for basketball, volleyball and other activities as space and time allow.

The program will be for school-age children and will be directed by recreation department personnel. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult who is 18 or older.
