There was no magical rally for the Lady Hounds last Friday, and their 2013 season ended in disappointing fashion when they fell to Union Grove two games to one in the first round of the state playoffs in Gray.

The visitors took a 1-0 shutout victory over Jones County in the opening game last Wednesday afternoon, but the Lady Hounds rallied from a 5-2 deficit Wednesday night to win the second game 6-5 in extra innings to force the third game.

The final game was delayed until Friday because Jones County had a Thursday football game, but the extra time suited the Wolverines better than the Lady Hounds.

Union Grove jumped out to 5-0 lead with a grand slam homer by Brittani Crawford in the first inning and another run in the second, then held off the Lady Hounds’ attempts to rally.

The Wolverines, 20-15, advance to face Effingham County, 22-7, in a second round series that starts Wednesday at Effingham.

Jones County finishes the season at 28-7.
