At the beginning of the March 11 meeting, Superintendent William Mathews said two of the three posts are contested. He said Deloras Moon and Larry Haskins, who represent Districts One and Three, are retiring after many years of faithful service. Each of those positions has three candidates vying to represent the districts.
Chairman Ginger Bailey is not opposed.
“We put the decision in the hands of our faithful voters,” Mathews said.
He said the election is May 20, and if a runoff is needed, it will take place July 22. The superintendent said the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidate forum April 28 at the courthouse at 6 p.m.
Mathews introduced Georgia College & State University student teachers working at Clifton Ridge Middle School.
