The actions of an alert Jones County deputy resulted in the arrests of two men who were caught in the act of burglary.

Investigators Kenny Gleaton and Kenny Allen responded to the scene of the burglary Nov. 15, after receiving a call from Sgt. Shane Moody. Gleaton said Moody was on Roosevelt Road on a routine patrol when he spotted a suspicious vehicle that he had not previously seen in the area.

“Sgt. Moody said he thought perhaps the car belonged to hunters. A man walked up and talked to him, but his story just didn’t add up,” the investigator said.

The individual talking to the deputy was Stephen Dwayne Aber. He told Moody that he had ridden to the area with Brawny Stewart who was at a residence next door and was armed.

The deputy was familiar with Stewart and knew he had a warrant for the county’s recent RICO case, so he notified investigators.

“We went to the location and observed Mr. Stewart in the act of burglary of an outbuilding,” Gleaton said.
