Two Macon men were arrested recently on a burglary charge with expectations from law enforcement of more charges to follow.

Jerry Dewayne Houston, 56, was arrested Sept. 16 and charged with burglary and the traffic charge of license to be carried and exhibited on demand.

Willie Eugene Howard, 33, was arrested on the charge of burglary.

Capt. Earl Humphries of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said officers have been investigating a series of burglaries in Jones County for the last month. He said the suspects wanted in the crimes were reported using a blue Chevrolet Astro van.

“We were out looking for the suspects when Deputy William Jernigan spotted the van and watched it riding through the neighborhoods. He stopped it coming out of a neighborhood on Highway 49,” Humphries said.

The captain said Howard is the owner of the van but Houston was driving. He said, when questioned, the men had different accounts of why they were in the area.
