Gray Police Chief Adam Lowe said a Fleetmaster 18-wheeler turning from Highway 22 to Highway 129 about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday misjudged the turn and actually sheared the utility pole on the corner off even with the ground. The pole was kept standing with the support of the wires until Georgia Power workers arrived. Lowe said every officer working for the police department was called in to help handle the traffic that flows through the intersection of four state routes and one county road. Approximately 1,000 homes were in the dark when the power was cut off to repair the lines. The chief said the intersection was cleared by 1:15 p.m.
