Offensive guard Jackson Williamson signed with Charleston Southern University of Charleston, S.C., and linebacker Doug West signed with Arizona Western College of Yuma, Ariz., last Wednesday morning, the first day recruits could sign scholarships.
Running back Undre Williams and center Thomas Rowan are also being recruited and may sign soon, Jones County coach Dwight Jones said.
Charleston Southern is a NCAA Division I FBC four-year program. The Buccaneers were 5-6 last season and have a new coach, Jamey Chadwell.
“They tell me they want me to play center and be a long snapper (for kicks and punts),” Williamson said. “I’m really excited.”
West said he is also excited for his chance to play at Arizona Western, a junior college coached by Tom Minnick, and hopes he’ll have the chance to transfer to a four-year school in a year or two. The Matadors were 8-2 last season.
