Fingerprints found at the scene of a burglary during the investigation of the crime resulted in the arrest of a suspect who was then linked to another break-in.
Investigator Kenny Gleaton of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said Clyde Douglas Dupree, 23, of Jones County, was arrested Feb. 25 and charged with burglary. Gleaton said Dupree’s fingerprints were found at the scene of a Feb. 17 burglary on Pitts Chapel Road.
He said the break-in was reported when the home-owner returned home from work and noticed several items missing. Those items included a 40-inch flat-screen television, a computer, and a hand gun.
Deputy Kenny Allen processed the scene and was able to lift the prints, and the offender was identified through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System computer at the sheriff’s department.
The investigator said Dupree was also linked to the theft of a motorcycle from a residence on Graystone Circle Feb. 19, which was recovered and returned to the owner. Gleaton said the investigation of the Graystone theft was handled by Deputy Paul Hathaway.
Gleaton said Dupree turned himself into the Law Enforcement Center after the suspect was informed of the warrants for his arrest. Dupree is currently on probation for the charge of theft by taking, and the investigator said he expects more charges to be filed as a result of the recent crimes.
“This investigation is ongoing, and we hope to recover more of the stolen items,” Gleaton added.
