Four members of the Jones County Road Runners, a youth track team, have qualified for the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics in New Orleans July 31-Aug. 6.

And four more will be competing in the ESPN National Team Championships at Walt Disney World in Orlando July 14-17, hoping to also qualify for the Junior Olympics.

Coaches LaMont Thomas and Valvin Hambrick said they are very pleased with the success of their runners as they have had an opportunity to compete against nationally ranked runners and be competitive.

“Our current team members headed to the Junior Olympics have finished second in their respective events in a qualifier, and we will be competing against teams from around the country and Puerto Rico,” Thomas said.

The Jones County team has been working with one from Warner Robins to prepare for the Orlando and New Orleans competitions, and they will travel together to the meets. But for the most part they are competing as separate teams.
