The kinder, gentler life in the South has not been forgotten, at least not by Fran Collins and members of her Junior Cotillion classes.
Trish Ann’s Antique Shop and Tea Room was the location of the most recent class, which was a five-course instructional dinner Aug. 8. In addition to a delicious meal, the evening provided a tutorial focusing on table etiquette, beginning with the proper use of napkins, utensils, silverware positions, and ending with how to use finger bowls.
Collins provided her 12 students, advisory board members, and guests with individual attention and instruction as each course was served.
The mission statement of the National League of Junior Cotillions is: to act and learn to treat others with honor, dignity, and respect for better relationships with our family, friends, and business associates later in life and to learn and practice ballroom dance.
Collins said the 2008-09 Junior Cotillion classes will begin in September, and the season includes five classes held monthly and two balls in December and March. Season II and Season III students will have a five-course instructional dinner.
She said Junior Cotillion classes are offered for fifth through tenth grades, and pre-cotillion classes are offered for students in Pre-K through fourth grade students.
“Students have three hour-and- a-half classes and a graduation reception where parents attend to observe the skills the students have learned,” Collins explained.
