The Greyhounds will again be hosting the Jones County Shootout summer baseball tournament for area school teams this week.

The action was to begin on Wednesday morning and continue through Saturday.

There are 13 schools participating in the tournament, which features varsity and junior varsity games for players who will be returning to high school next year.

A total of 49 games are scheduled. They will be played at Jones County High, Perry High and Houston County High. Schools participating also include Windsor, Upson-Lee, Veterans, Tattnall Square, Crisp County, Mary Persons, Stratford, Dublin, Locust Grove and Lamar County.

Jones County coach Barry Veal said the summer tournament is held just after school gets out so that the players are still in baseball condition. It is a chance for the coaches to see what younger players who didn’t play a lot during the regular season can do, and to try players at different positions.
