GRAY: Nellie Grace Newman, 87, of Villawood Drive, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, in a local nursing home. The family is receiving friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services are being held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, at Northridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Newman, the daughter of the late John Henry Brown and Martha Mable Charping Brown, was born on Dec. 29, 1924, in Macon, and had lived in Gray for the past 52 years. She retired from Kmart, where she worked as a personnel supervisor. Mrs. Newman was a member of Haddock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Newman; daughter, Elizabeth Davis; great-grandchildren, Matthew Moore and Morgan Grace Harris; and by three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Newman is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Deloris and Howard Martin of Gray and Pat McAlum of Asheville, N.C.; and by seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Georgia, 886 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.
