The Sept. 4 meeting started with a planning and zoning request for a variance to allow creation of a lot on a substandard road. The property is located behind St. Paul Church, and the variance was unanimously approved.
The first new business item was the approval of an operating agreement between Jones County and the Georgia Department of Transportation for the operation of public transportation known as Jones County Transit.
Assistant County Administrator Margie Tyson explained that the program operated under a grant that was approved in March.
Commissioners voted unanimously to continue the program.
County Administrator Mike Underwood spoke to board members about the funding of water and wastewater improvements at River North. He said the commissioners need to decide if the improvements will be financed through bonds or a loan.
