Four experienced riders with the Cyclists of Gray took off from the parking lot of the Government Center about 7:15 a.m. Sept. 9 with the intention of taking a daylong ride to Milledgeville, Toomsboro, Irwinton, Gordon, and back to Gray.

Susan Taylor was a witness to the hit and run accident and said the accident victim, Steve Parker, was riding at the rear of the group that consisted of four riders. The cyclists were on Highway 22, and Taylor said the van almost hit the three riders in front when it sped by.
“I yelled when it passed, and it slowed down. I thought it was going to stop, but then it took off,” she said.
