The Lady Hounds split a pair of subregion games last week, downing Warner Robins 10-0 and losing to No. 10 Houston County 5-0. And in non-region play, they fell 10-0 to fifth-ranked Union Grove.

“We played OK in the region games,” coach Blake Lyons said. “Houston County has a good team. Softball is about chemistry and timing, and they’re on now. But I thought we played pretty good against them. We hit the ball hard, probably better than they did, but we were hitting them right at them and they were making plays. But we’re getting better.”

Jones County also got a boost by having sophomore lefty Kylie Bass return to the starting rotation after being sidelined for several weeks with a sore shoulder. She pitched both of the region games.

“She’s close to 100 percent and ready to go the rest of the season. She just needs a little more work to be back in game shape,” Lyons said.

Now 2-1 after the first time through the subregion schedule, the Lady Hounds are hoping to sweep the next trip through to wrap up a top seed for the region playoffs.

“Win two of three again and we’ll get to host a first-round series, but we really want to be the top seed so we’ll have a good draw for the region final four if we get there,” the coach said.
