Chairman Donald Black introduced Director Joy Carr at the Sept. 17 meeting to a room filled with 20 individuals who represented education, the faith community, youth agencies, and community organizations.
Carr began with a presentation about what Family Connection is, beginning with how it was formed.
It started with information Gov. Zell Miller received in 1990 from an organization named KIDS COUNT. Georgia KIDS COUNT is supported through funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation and provides local, state, and national data and trends on children, families, and communities in Georgia.
Carr said that data showed Georgia 48th in the United States in overall child well-being, and Miller thought that was unacceptable.
“He established a two-year pilot program to look at a better way to network and focus on Georgia’s children,” she said.
