Bobby Antonio Williams, 27, was arrested Sept. 17 and charged with cruelty to animals, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, dogfighting and a probation violation.
Lewis Pitts, 19, was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with cruelty to animals, dogfighting, theft by receiving stolen property, and obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.
A report of the arrests by Gray Police Officer Jason Douglas states he received a tip Sept. 16 about a dogfight taking place in a wooded area between Wayne and North streets. He said Sgt. Mitch Lovick joined him in searching for the illegal activity. While the officers were walking in the woods, they saw four males, and one of them was walking a brown dog on a chain.
The four men ran when they saw the officers. Douglas was able to catch one of the men and placed him under arrest. The dog was recovered and had substantial wounds to his face and neck.
The officers continued their search and found another dog chained to a tree. The dog was a pit bull and also had heavy wounds to its face and neck. Photos were taken of the dogs, and they were turned over to animal control.
