Chairman Donald Black left no doubt at the Sept. 28 meeting that the group would revert back to the Jones County People Looking Ahead Now Housing Committee from which it began and continue working.
Jones County’s application to become a GICH team was accepted in 2009 and was supported by county commissioners and Gray’s City Council. Black visited each of the boards at their September meetings to express the team’s appreciation of their continued support.
The GICH team recently attended its final retreat in Cartersville and had the pleasure of announcing the receipt of a $385,000 Community Development Block Grant housing grant.
The funds will be used to improve 10 homes in the Jefferson Street neighborhood in Gray.
The first agenda item for last week’s meeting was a presentation from Evelyn Hill about the Idella Duncan School project in Haddock. Hill said since the last committee meeting, a board of directors for the project has been formed. She said surveys have been sent out in the community and positive responses were received.
