Jeff Harliss, with Strowser Construction, and Chris Dukes with Southeast Emulsions gave a PowerPoint presentation on micro surfacing, which is a polymer modified cold-mix paving system.
Commissioner Tommy Robinson introduced the men. He said he asked them to make the presentation after seeing a demonstration of micro surfacing being applied in Henry County.
“I was very impressed but I questioned its durability. They took us to Tennessee to see roads that had been done from one-10 years ago,” he said.
Robinson said the road that had been done 10 years ago did not look much different than the one that was done one year ago.
Harliss said the treatment could be used instead of chip sealing or in addition to on roads in bad shape.
One of the big advantages of micro surfacing is the short cure time. He said the road could be drivable in as little as 20 minutes.
